My Pole * Myself * My SensUal Joy
=======================
MY REWARDS FROM POLE DANCING
When Joy invited me to share my pole dancing class experience, I said YES without hesitation.
It is a great pleasure and an honor to
1. Share all the benefits I’ve gained from pole dancing at SensUal Joy and
2. Encourage any lady who is thinking of taking up pole dancing to STOP over-analyzing and JUST DO IT!
Do it out of self-love. It is absolutely 100% worth it. YOU are worth it.
Allow me to elaborate on my enthusiasm for pole dance classes in SensUal Joy.
1. A Sense Of Inner Peace And Happiness
The combination of it all, getting to know myself, being able to do the things I wasn’t able to do before and gaining new knowledge has given me a sense of inner peace. I always feel extremely satisfied and happy with myself at the end of class. It is so Happy, Healthy and SensUal!
Joy says it is all the endorphins circulating in my body after the workout. But who cares why?! I feel HAPPY! JOUFUL! EXUBERANT! Ready to take on the world!
2. A Sense of Confidence About My Own Physical And Mental Abilities And How Fabulous I Really Am!
As I do not have a dance background, to be able to execute moves worth of any professional dancers makes me feel REALLY GOOD ABOUT MYSELF.
Once I did my first swing walk, I felt transformed to another person. And my confidence has grown steadily lesson after lesson, one successful move after another.
My sense of pride swells each and every time that I manage to climb the pole and slide down. It doesn’t even matter if it was not executed in perfection. Just being able to climb the pole is an achievement in itself!
*beaming with pride*
3. I Have Learnt To Trust Myself
This is HUGE for me! To climb the pole and to do my pole swings requires so much courage from my part. There is always a part of me cluttered with fear holding me back. But slowly, little by little, I learnt to trust my body’s instincts. To trust ME to take care of myself and to simply let go.
4. I Have Learnt To Let Go
I have learnt that pole dancing is a lot about allowing the body and your own instinct to take over. You are required to visualize the move you want to execute beforehand. Imagination plays a big part. Eventually, it is your body that has to act it out.
So you have to let go of the chatter in your head and just do it. Release and allow your body to take over. The moment that happens, it becomes natural. Everything falls into place and I execute my move. A fantastic surprise. I DID IT!
5. I Have Learnt The Beauty And Rewards of Persistence And Knowing It Is OK To Make Mistakes
First, Joy will demonstrate the move I am about to learn together with detailed explanations. Next, she will allow me to make my first feeble attempt. I sometimes end up looking silly. Such as when I couldn’t climb the pole or when some of the swings simply go “wrong.”
Trust me, it looks really awkward. Joy will then give me more coaching and then leave me alone to work at it. That personal time with the pole helps to develop my relationship with the pole.
No matter how much Joy says or show me, I still have to be the one to take action and keep doing it until I get it right. To make mistakes and keep trying. Especially when it is a tricky pole trick that I have to nail down.
WOW, the feeling is AMAZING – “I DID IT. I FINALLY DID IT.” It is such an awesome feeling and I would feel on top of the world!
6. I Have Discovered It’s More Than OK To Be Comfortable With My Own SensUality And Sexuality.
I Can Be Proud Of It.
I was never taught about sensUality. (Perhaps it is supposed to come naturally?) I used to be really frightened and confused about my sexuality. It started during adolescence when men started to look at me differently – no longer as a little girl, but as a sexual object.
And I had no idea about what to do with the power I had over men. As a result, my sensUality scares me. But learning pole dancing from Joy, receiving her encouragement and most of all, seeing first-hand another woman being comfortable in her own sensUal self has helped me tremendously.
Witnessing somebody else be BOTH sensUal and respectable at the same time proves to me it is possible for me too. It is not dirty to be sensUal. It is OK for me to just be myself.
7. I Have Learnt The Importance Of And How To Slow Down
(Calm Down)
There is something so deliciously sensUal about a woman when she just slow down to indulge in and savour every moment of a pole slide. Leaning against the pole while rotating your hips … oooooh HOT!
A lady natural sexy side is on display. Some moves requires you to go a little faster, some moves slower, adding flavor and variety to your routine and making it so much more interesting.
So for someone like me who tends to go turbo speed feels as if I am almost forced to slow down. It becomes a different, surprising, wonderful, soothing and pampering experience
8. I Learnt How To Get In Touch With My Body And Own It
Joy introduced to me the concept of free hand play –> touching myself, my hair, my body, all over and loving it.
How do I explain this?
It is a liberating experience for me, touching myself… like giving myself a personal massage. Affirming to my body that it is beautiful, wonderful, fantastic, amazing, attractive and I love and approve of it!
9. I Have Found A Scared Space And Sanctuary Where My Inner Goddess Feels Safe To Reveal Herself
Thank to the atmosphere that Joy has painstakingly created in her studio as well as her coaching skills. From the decor of red velvet drapes, soft lighting, crazy horse lights during show-time, to the sensUal music and her warm, gentle but firm and encouraging guidance that has helped me to feel completely relaxed.
Given the right non-judgmental environment, my SensUal Goddess feels at ease to reveal herself. All the little details in the atmosphere has made a great difference in my sensUal journey.
Gratefully, the intimate setting in SensUal Joy always makes me feel extremely pampered and secure. Safe to express and to be myself.
10. I Am Proud To Say I Now Have A Stronger, More Fit And Even More Fabulous Body!
I attribute this to the natural strengthening and aerobic/cardiovascular exercise that pole dancing has given me ranging from the pole slides to the pole swings.
Pole dancing may look easy, but it is not for wimps. It takes energy to pull it off and to look great while at it. But it is so much fun at the same time too!
To Sum It All Up
Pole dancing at SensUal Joy has been FUN; has brought me more CONFIDENCE, more JOY, more INNER PEACE, more HAPPINESS.
Each time I pole dance, I am reminded of the importance of trusting myself, letting go, being persistent, being comfortable and proud of my own sensUality and sexUality and to slow down.
Even more importantly, through pole dancing, I have realized that I already possess ALL these qualities. I am now better acquainted with my body through feel, touch and instinct. My body is also stronger and looking more fabulous than ever.
Conclusion
SensUal Joy has become a SANCTUARY for me, a sacred space where my inner Goddess feels welcome, safe and ready to reveal herself. Whenever I pole dance at SensUal Joy, my inner Goddess comes out to play, have fun, celebrate and enjoy life!
Do yourself a favor and sign yourself up for classes too!
Lots of Love,
Shuling

Pole Dancing, even Paris Hilton says yeah!
===================
I found this article rather amusing. Apparently even our infamous hotel heiress finds it very difficult to keep her hands off the pole. However, for her it is obviously an act of ego. She wanted the attention and the suggestiveness that pole dancing tends to associated with in most people’s minds.
She couldn’t have been more accurate in her statement of pole dancing as an excellent form of fitness exercise. I was not there when she did her thing hence I am unable to comment on her inclusion of the “Me touching my breast” in her act.
A lot would depends on HOW she went about doing it. In general just reading about it, it seems very uncalled for to me.
Oh well, everyone have different motivations when it comes to why they pole dance. I don’t really care. So long as I know why i always swirl around my favourite poles…

Pole Dancing – MTV Style in the 80s
===================
Youtube MTV Video –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJrSyFpK3iQ
This is an interesting clip showcasing pole dancing the way it was in the 80s.
For hard core pole dancers, let me warn you first, expect nothing fanciful.
However it does give you an idea of how pole dancing was performed in the strip clubs then.
Although it was really a lot of pole styling more than anything else, I have to say that the style and energy levels by the dancers were commendable.
This is pretty much a rock video and I have to say, I am no fan of rock music.
Another aspect of the video that caught my eye were the costumes.
At this time and age, it does feel a little tacky but I believe it is came across as really HOT and SEXY then.

Pole Dancing, Safety and Precautions
==================
Yes, pole dancing can be very fun, addictive and god damn sexy. But don’t be a god damn idiot and underestimate the importance of safety. Unless of course, you have already prepared a huge and super generous account for insurance, hospitalization and plastic surgery.

General Guidelines:
1. INSTALLATION AND ENVIRONMENT
- Treat your pole with loving care be it during usage or storage. It can determine your life and death literally!
- Poles should always be in a horizontal position when it is not in use. This is to prevent it from falling over people and things.
- Do NOT force the pole into the desired position. If internal damage occurs, you can forget about your warranty or guarantee that comes with the pole.
- Allow plenty of space around the pole. Avoid installing it near windows, doors or furniture and fittings.
- Ideally, have a specific room for the pole. A room that is out of bounds to children and animals.
- Do NOT install it near dangerous spots such as open balconies, staircases and unprotected areas.

2. POLE AND MAINTENANCE
- Do NOT overload the pole. Please, be mindful of the amount of stress you are putting on the pole. Generally, a dance pole can take about 200lbs (about 90.7 kg). Check the installation instructions that comes with the pole.
- Check your pole regularly for wear and tear, damage, or looseness
- Inspect your ceiling diligently for wear and tear, damage, or looseness.
In short, have fun but SAFETY COMES FIRST!!!

History And Origins Of Pole Dancing
This has been around a lot longer than many of us would think, but how did pole dancing originate and where did come from? The form of pole dance we know today and its origins can be traced back to exotic performance dance arts.
The first recorded striptease dates back to a myth from ancient Sumerian times involving Inanna, the Goddess of Love, and her descent into the underworld to find her lover Damouz. At each of the seven gates, she removed an article of clothing or a piece of jewellery. As long as Inanna remained in hell, the earth was barren. When she returned, the earth again became abundant and fruitful. Some believe this myth evolved in the ‘Dance of the Seven Veils’ of Salome from the bible.
The bible records Salome’s dance but the first mention of removing veils rises from Oscar Wilde’s play of ‘Salome’ in 1883. Some have claimed this to be the origin of modern striptease, but other influences may have come from Parisian times and the Moulin Rouge striptease through to Middle Eastern belly dancing and American burlesque.
Today many women learn the arts of Belly Dancing and dancing with Veils. Belly Dancing has been carried over from these legendary events. The skill have traveled from ancient Sumeria and into the Asia counties. It is understood to have been picked up by the gypsies who brought Belly Dancing through Europe.
The ancient Middle Eastern belly dance was thought to induce fertility in women and to strengthen their bodies in preparation for childbirth.
Throughout history there have been many forms of dance emerging. Many formed from sensual roots and bringing with them much controversy.
Another sensual form of dance, Rumba, is a dance of enticement and teasing. The tango originated in brothels of ancient Argentina. ‘Gouchos’ would arrive after working in the fields and the girls would entice them into going upstairs through dancing with their heads turned slightly to avoid the smell.
In the early 1900s the strip tease dance was added to burlesques shows to entice men to return. These featured famous strippers including Gypsy Lee Rose. Traveling tent shows had strip tease acts. The smaller tent dancers started to use the pole in the tent’s centre to dance around. These tents became known as the dance pole tents.
Another idea of where pole dance actually started is linked to the Maypole. This Pagan ritual was seen by some as a phallic symbol which may explain why some link it to the pole dancing we know now.
The earliest recorded pole dance was in 1968 with a performance by Belle Jangles at Mugwump strip joint in Oregon.
Today’s pole dancing craze is believed to have started in Canada in the 1980’s in exotic table dancing and lap dance clubs. Fawnia Mondey, originally from Canada, is one of the worlds first pole dancing champions. During the 1990’s Fawnia started teaching pole dancing to every day women. She produced the very first instructional pole dancing DVD.
Pole dancing quickly spread to the US followed by the rest of the world, helped by multi corporations such as Spearmint Rhino. Pole dancing is recognized throughout the world including Europe, Australia and even parts of China.
Lap dancing clubs in the UK grew in 1990’s featuring pole dancing on stage. Since 2000 onwards pole dancing has become more acceptable by the general public.
Pole dancing as we know it today involves dancing around a vertical pole. The old ancient strip tease became a forerunner to the modern updated variation. Pole dancing provides a display of acrobatics and strength, combined with a combination of sensual, flowing, feminine dance movements to form the art of pole dancing we now know and recognize.
The modern form of pole dancing has only been documented since the 1980’s, yet the origins appear to go back many years prior to this. Only in recent years has pole dancing become more acceptable. The stigma attached to this art may be one of the reasons why the dance appears to have little history documented and appears to have been ‘underground’ for many years.
