The Future of Pole Dancing … No Longer in Shadowy Men’s Clubs?
=================
In popular perception, pole dancing is almost impossible to remove from the context of a gentlemen’s club, where it is performed for the titillation and arousal of .. well, now that investment bankers and their clients can get into trouble for going to them, most classes of well-heeled (and often distinctly not-so-well-heeled) men. However, signs exist that this is changing, and that pole dancing will continue to make inroads into the mainstream. Questions remain however as to what form that will take …
Pole dancing and its antecedents are wide and varied. The two that most readily spring to mind are Maypole dancing, which by some accounts has its origins as a pagan fertility ritual, and Chinese pole, which appears to be approximately two thousand years old, and is the basis for acrobatic performances by highly trained artists. Both have by now largely shed any overtones of the sexually risque, with one regarded as a charming eccentricity and the other a display of athletic prowess. They contain interesting clues as to the ultimate fate of the pole dancing genre.
Modern pole dancing – popularly understood to have originated in Canada – has morphed in the two or more decades since its inception into several distinct forms: the original form, which is largely performed in gentlemen’s clubs, remains a vehicle to entice men to either tip or to agree to a lap dance. It is overtly about seduction although it appears to have become more acrobatic (a bit of an arms race – literally – in the genre). However, what practitioners call “pole-styling” appears to be more important than the ability to perform difficult physical maneuvers. While the ability to preen seductively using the prop as prop is important here, it is not likely to be where the genre is going.
The pole fitness movement, which gains in respectability daily, is probably the other most publicized context into which this form has entered the popular consciousness. Practitioners laud the physical benefits of this activity, as well as the physiological benefits. Detractors point out that the benefits from this may be had by less controversial forms of exercise. Whether or not pole fitness is going to be around is no longer at issue… its continued ability to attract paying customers should ensure that in some form or another, it will survive. Soccer mums will soon be hitting the pole for the day’s aerobics after dropping off their brats; it’s probably already happening.
Pole dancing competitions now abound, and it is here that pole dancing is gaining grounds as a performance art. Owing allegiance to no formal rules (girl, pole, you’re there!), competitive pole dancing appears to draw inspiration from ballet, Chinese pole, and gymnastics, and has moved to a place where overt sexuality appears to have little role to play. The undeniable athleticism and grace of its most skilled proponents elevates it to an art form, albeit a controversial and frankly surprising one.
In dance clubs, pole dancing performances remain popular, and while some of these performances retain elements of burlesque and the gentlemen’s club, dancers are pushing the boundaries, with the same fusion of different schools and philosophies of dance and acrobatics which have appeared in pole dancing competitions. That the arena of the competition and that of the dance club will cross-pollinate is certain.
The conclusion one arrives at – very gingerly, because the history books on this are yet to be written, if at all – is that pole dancing will move increasingly out of gentlemen’s clubs, and into the world of popular dance clubs, will move increasingly onto the competition stage (don’t hold your breath for pole dancing as an Olympics event, although the ancient Greeks would probably have approved), will colonize the fitness clubs and gymnasiums of the future, and gain acceptance as a legitimate performance art genre.
As a true and old school aficionado of the burlesque and the older form of pole dancing, I sigh wistfully, order another whiskey and soda, relight my (by now) extinguished cigar, and settle down to watch another pole dance in my gentlemen’s club, lamenting its emergence from the shadows. I wonder if I should get a lap dance…

From Dusk Till Dawn – Hot Exotic Moves
=====================
This is a really old movie and you know it the moment you see handsome and awfully young George Clooney. I especially love his lines. Simple, forceful, to the point. I like it. ,op.
There are NO pole dancing scenes (sorry!) but plenty of split second shots on the exotic dancers doing their thing. There are quite a number of them grooving at the same time.
Some half naked, some in interesting attires and one doing her shadow dance. The scene that I care most about is obviously when sizzling Salma Hayek did her hypnotic snake dance in the seedy Mexican bar.
And she did her item to a song I really love, After Dark by Tito & Tarantula. That famous whisky leg feeding scene have probably blasted many a male viewer’s mind right into outer space! Check out that kiss my own beautiful leg act too. True diva in her self obsession. haha!
Salma Hayek Foot Fetish Scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMpnLaEFc34
Quentin Tarantino was a credible act too as a sick psycho rapist. He is wonderfully talented I must say. The rest of the movie is in its typical good old fashion choreographed ways. Bloody and too organized in its chaos actually!

Pole Dancing – MTV Style in the 80s
===================
Youtube MTV Video –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJrSyFpK3iQ
This is an interesting clip showcasing pole dancing the way it was in the 80s.
For hard core pole dancers, let me warn you first, expect nothing fanciful.
However it does give you an idea of how pole dancing was performed in the strip clubs then.
Although it was really a lot of pole styling more than anything else, I have to say that the style and energy levels by the dancers were commendable.
This is pretty much a rock video and I have to say, I am no fan of rock music.
Another aspect of the video that caught my eye were the costumes.
At this time and age, it does feel a little tacky but I believe it is came across as really HOT and SEXY then.

History And Origins Of Pole Dancing
This has been around a lot longer than many of us would think, but how did pole dancing originate and where did come from? The form of pole dance we know today and its origins can be traced back to exotic performance dance arts.
The first recorded striptease dates back to a myth from ancient Sumerian times involving Inanna, the Goddess of Love, and her descent into the underworld to find her lover Damouz. At each of the seven gates, she removed an article of clothing or a piece of jewellery. As long as Inanna remained in hell, the earth was barren. When she returned, the earth again became abundant and fruitful. Some believe this myth evolved in the ‘Dance of the Seven Veils’ of Salome from the bible.
The bible records Salome’s dance but the first mention of removing veils rises from Oscar Wilde’s play of ‘Salome’ in 1883. Some have claimed this to be the origin of modern striptease, but other influences may have come from Parisian times and the Moulin Rouge striptease through to Middle Eastern belly dancing and American burlesque.
Today many women learn the arts of Belly Dancing and dancing with Veils. Belly Dancing has been carried over from these legendary events. The skill have traveled from ancient Sumeria and into the Asia counties. It is understood to have been picked up by the gypsies who brought Belly Dancing through Europe.
The ancient Middle Eastern belly dance was thought to induce fertility in women and to strengthen their bodies in preparation for childbirth.
Throughout history there have been many forms of dance emerging. Many formed from sensual roots and bringing with them much controversy.
Another sensual form of dance, Rumba, is a dance of enticement and teasing. The tango originated in brothels of ancient Argentina. ‘Gouchos’ would arrive after working in the fields and the girls would entice them into going upstairs through dancing with their heads turned slightly to avoid the smell.
In the early 1900s the strip tease dance was added to burlesques shows to entice men to return. These featured famous strippers including Gypsy Lee Rose. Traveling tent shows had strip tease acts. The smaller tent dancers started to use the pole in the tent’s centre to dance around. These tents became known as the dance pole tents.
Another idea of where pole dance actually started is linked to the Maypole. This Pagan ritual was seen by some as a phallic symbol which may explain why some link it to the pole dancing we know now.
The earliest recorded pole dance was in 1968 with a performance by Belle Jangles at Mugwump strip joint in Oregon.
Today’s pole dancing craze is believed to have started in Canada in the 1980’s in exotic table dancing and lap dance clubs. Fawnia Mondey, originally from Canada, is one of the worlds first pole dancing champions. During the 1990’s Fawnia started teaching pole dancing to every day women. She produced the very first instructional pole dancing DVD.
Pole dancing quickly spread to the US followed by the rest of the world, helped by multi corporations such as Spearmint Rhino. Pole dancing is recognized throughout the world including Europe, Australia and even parts of China.
Lap dancing clubs in the UK grew in 1990’s featuring pole dancing on stage. Since 2000 onwards pole dancing has become more acceptable by the general public.
Pole dancing as we know it today involves dancing around a vertical pole. The old ancient strip tease became a forerunner to the modern updated variation. Pole dancing provides a display of acrobatics and strength, combined with a combination of sensual, flowing, feminine dance movements to form the art of pole dancing we now know and recognize.
The modern form of pole dancing has only been documented since the 1980’s, yet the origins appear to go back many years prior to this. Only in recent years has pole dancing become more acceptable. The stigma attached to this art may be one of the reasons why the dance appears to have little history documented and appears to have been ‘underground’ for many years.

Pole Dancing, Lap Dances and Fitness
=============================
Most of us associate pole dancing with stripping, but that concept is changing. Plenty of women are stepping up and admitting that they find pole dancing erotic and sexy, and they would be willing to give it a try. I know I certainly would.
Pole Dancing and Exercise
Pole dancing has become an exercise phenomenon with actresses like Kim Cattral from HBO’s Sex and The City and Carmen Electra promoting girl power with their own how-to videos.
Kim Cattral recently appeared on the Oprah show along with pole dancing instructor Sheila Kelley to teach women how to release their inner sexpot through …
