Miss Pole Dance UK, A Misunderstood Affair

If all the pole dancing you have ever been associated with are doughy images you have seen on movies and scantily clad singers in their music videos, you will probably be part of the “what the hell, we just cleaned it up!” team at King Cross. Our most profound respect if the above mentioned is true but you still find pole dancing a cool and admirable activity. Pole dancing have been penetrating country after country faster than you can say ‘Oh wow’ during the last few years.

Countless women are embracing it and even more are getting better at their pole moves/tricks with their OWN poles even as I speak. And yet, we are still confronted by individuals and groups belonging to the dinosaur age, refusing to embrace what have been a healthy does of self esteem to women all over the world, insisting that it is just sleaze, only sleaze and nothing else.

This is a terrible shame. It is just like people who insists that yoga are for weirdos and only for people who have nothing better to do than to bend themselves into odd shapes and positions. Never mind that history has proven its enormous benefits.

They shut their eyes, cover their ears, shake their heads, run away shrieking that it is bad, bad and bad.

Nothing else matters.

*plenty of eye rolling*

Oh well, suit yourself. I think it’s hard to climb or swing the pole anyway if you are a dinosaur.

In case you are scratching your head in bewilderment how this post gets to be on a pole dancing blog, mystery easily solved with a quick peek at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1959505/

I had the luxury of watching this movie last evening as a reward for finishing my studies for the day. The verdict: this movie is a disappointment to me. However, Ellen Page is a commendable actress. The story line is thinner than paper thin.

The amusing part was that Juno MacGuff was highly articulate for a 16 years old holding very pragmatic views for her most unfortunate and unexpected situation, being impregnated by her best friend, Paulie Bleeker. Most girls at that age would have understandably freaked out.

She was in total control of the situation. After a failed attempt at abortion, she got occupied in her attempt to find a suitable couple to adopt her still unborn child. The nice twist was when she and the child’s father-to-be got on quickly like a house on fire.

Don’t expect any pole dancing and you can terminate any hopes of dance or artistic scenes immediately. This is a sadly way too typical “teenager got pregnant, shit now what” kinda show.

The only reasons I would agree to sit myself down for this show was

1- The writer was and might in the near future continue to be a pole dancer. This by itself was a huge acknowledgment that pole dancers are NOT bimbos. Not all anyway.

2- Being a literary student, I am caught up with the name “Juno” who, in the Greek mythology, is the wife of the chief god, Jupiter.

My consolation is, the song that the show ended with was a wonderful song that I fell in love with very quickly.

So there you have it, Juno the very unsexy movie written by a most unlikely stripper.

Now, before you think I hate Britney Spears, let me tell you upfront how much I adore her. She is bloody hot and sexy as hell. But still, I find her latest Gimme More video leaves so much to be desired. The song however is raunchy and does make me wanna do things to my pole. *ha*

First of all, the video was blur through and through. I’m not sure if it’s because that particular video in Youtube was of inferior quality. There were plenty of repetitive moves. *Yawn* Her hands placement were all wrong for a pole video.

You cannot possibly use your left hand all the time when you are filming a pole shoot standing on the left side of the pole. And show off your armpit. And block your own beautiful face. Duh?

The video comes across as too free and easy. It seems to me there isn’t any choreographed or knocked out moves of any kind. It was a lot of hovering around the pole like a lost and wandering soul. Most of the video was shot in one angle. I pray to God it was not from a fixed tripod!

Many a times the face is partially cut off and you wonder what happened to her forehead. It just doesn’t make any video sense at all. By the time the video is over, your mind just go “huh? That’s it?!” Definitely not what we expect from the one and only Britney Spears.

The black rocker babe outfit was cool by me. And I, for one, thinks she has an awesome body and a gorgeous butt. However, it was tarnished by her *gasp* did you see that protruded tummy?! Overall, a hideous video by Miss “I’m A Slave For You” standards.

What happened to the sizzling seductress that had everyone, including me for the record, eating out of her hands? Yes the poor girl is traumatized with her marital and children custody issues. But hey, Britney, you are dearly missed and please, Hit Me Baby One More Time!

It was really TIRING to keep dancing for the CAMERA and the VIDEO CAM all at the same time. I realized that they have different sets of requirements. It was quite a handful to juggle many requirements while concentrating on my DANCE. Pole dancing is strenuous to begin with, i realized that you cannot go all out for the camera because you will die before you can say “OMG”.

On the other hand, you should give it all out for the videocam for a specified short period of time so that the full GLORY of your dance can be captured. Pole dancing changes so much in HEIGHT LEVELS because of the SPINS, the CLIMBS and the FLOOR WORK, the videocam man in particular has to be not just familiar with POLE DANCING, but also with your individual STYLE.

Maintaining EYE CONTACT with the camera is crucial. That was the hardest CHALLENGE for me. I like to get into a world of my own whenever I pole dance. It is too TEMPTING not to do so. I had to consciously remind myself to remain CONNECTED with the lenses and communicate with them. Certain angles doesn’t work for the lenses, you need to figure out which are the dead ends with your guys. COMMUNICATION is crucial.

I had to coordinate my dance with the lenses. Whenever I feel a ZOOM IN or the guys moving closer to me, I have to CONCENTRATE more on STYLING and FACIAL EXPRESSIONS rather than moving too much in space. I was truly brain fried by the time the session was over. All I could do was crawl to my doggy. Why, in classic KITTEN CRAWL style of course! *op
